The Outdoor Circuit Breaker (OSM) is designed for use as an automatic circuit recloser on overhead distribution lines and as an outdoor circuit breaker in distribution substation applications for voltages up to 27 kV where a light and long lifetime vacuum circuit breaker is needed.

Conventional circuit breakers use complicated mechanisms to transfer actions from a single actuator into the movements of three arc quenching contacts. Beyond this, the movable contacts are fixed in their OPEN and CLOSED positions through the use of mechanical latches. These mechanical arrangements are subject to severe stress during the operation cycles and are the main reason for circuit breaker failures.

Tavrida's vacuum circuit breaker uses three single-coil magnetic actuators, one per pole. The same actuator is used to open and close operations. All the switching elements are assembled along a single axis. This way, all mechanical movements are therefore direct and linear.
