Secovi (Housing Union), by means of Normative Ruling of November/2001, called “Building Remote Measurement Systems Standardization ” , established a recommendation so that the recent building installations already set forth individual water and gas measurements. For that purpose, it generated a set of specifications for hydraulic infrastructure of new condominium undertaking which enable the implementation of remote measurement systems.

This infrastructure estimates the installation of conduits among the water, gas meters, and data collectors and concentrators, in addition to a hydraulic project definition to unify the water entry by one only pipe.

When the undertakings present such characteristics, the cabling solution may be used. The solution is based on the installation of data concentrators on each floor, called Data Units, capable to read up to 8 meters of water or gas, which receive data by means of pulsed signals sent by the meters .

The Data Units are interconnected by a RS 485 serial network and send the information on total consumption to a gateway interconnected to mobile network or phone network by ADSL modem. The Measurement Gateway , installed on a Data Center with full access safety and back-up routines, assures data maintenance, allowing the remote access to consumption information on an individual basis for each user registered into the system. This access' control is managed by the System's Administrator appointed by the Condominium Administrator.
